Physical Therapy for Scoliosis

Physical therapy does not have to be cookie cutter, generic exercises that don’t help!

All bodies are asymmetrical including the brain, where our organs are placed and how we use our extremities just to name a few examples. This inherent asymmetry is exaggerated in people with scoliosis. While we often don’t know what causes scoliosis to start, we know that there are changes in all three planes of movement of the body.

You deserve a physical therapist that can evaluate your unique movement pattern and tailor an exercise program individualized to your body! Both Heather (PT) and Christina (wellness provider) have scoliosis and better understand how it feels to live in and manage a curvy body!

Heather believes that the mind and body must be integrated for optimal movement and health. Including components of breathing, interoception, mindfulness, trauma informed techniques, somatic experiencing, and targeted manual therapy techniques expands the depth of healing she can offer her clients.

Make your appointment today and see the difference 1:1 individualized physical therapy can make in your body!

Let’s get started!

Begin with a New Client Scoliosis Assessment. In the first scoliosis appointment we will do a full assessment, discuss goals, go over x-rays and discuss a treatment plan. This session is required before scheduling any 1-on-1 sessions.

What to expect on your first visit.  This is a 90 minute appointment where we discuss treatment history, medical conditions, goals, postural analysis and testing. Please wear fitted clothes like yoga pants / shorts and a sports bra. Photos will be taken to track progression.

Meet Heather - PT

Hello! My name is Heather Jenny and I have been curious about the body and health my entire career. I graduated with a BS in physical therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1990 and completed my Masters in Gerontology from Wichita State University in 1995. In my career, I specialized and received board certification in both women’s and geriatric physical therapy.

I enjoy and have treated all types of neuromuscular problems throughout my career but have a unique passion for how the mind and body interact for movement and breathing.

My brother was diagnosed with scoliosis and had spinal fusion as a 17-year-old and my entire family has a bit of a twist. This personal history with scoliosis and asymmetrical patterns in the body has led me to seek specialized training in their treatment.

In 2013, I earned the designation of Postural Restoration CertifiedTM(PRC) as a result of advanced training, extraordinary interest and devotion to the science of postural adaptations, asymmetrical patterns, and the influence of polyarticular chains of muscles on the human body as defined by the Postural Restoration Institute®. This type of treatment can involve collaboration with specialized dentists, optometrists, and orthotists to assist the body in healing.

I have been a practitioner of yoga for years and the mind body connection helped me heal myself inside and out. I became a 200hr yoga teacher in the spring of 2021 at Parallel 45. Since then, I have focused further trainings on breathing, trauma informed yoga, yoga for pain diagnosis’ and in 2023, completed certification in Somatic Healing. I believe these mind body connections are corner stones to compliment my physical therapy treatments.

I meet Christina at Parallel 45 and could immediately see her passion for others with scoliosis and how to help twisty people feel better in their bodies. I wanted to become a part of her team and support her vision to do just that!
